We pour love into every custom design. The result? Invitations and announcements that reflect who you are, and the heart of your event. Our clients often tell us that designing their invitations and paper goods with Robinson Press was the most fun part of their event planning process.

Custom letterpress stationery isn’t an everyday purchase, often this is the first time you’ve worked with a graphic designer. For that reason, we want to make the process as accessible as possible for our clients. You can count on us to answer any of your questions about etiquette, wording, timing, or where to find vintage postage stamps. We got you covered. We’re an independent studio with a hands-on team, you’ll be working one-on-one with Robinson Press’ owner, Rachel Robinson, on whatever your project may be.

This process is a collaboration. It’s your story and your vision that will drive the creative process, and our expertise that will turn those ideas into a unique and compelling suite of paper goods.

GOT A CRUSH?  Check out our website, our instagram account and what folks are saying about us on the knot. Maybe you like something from our existing portfolio, or maybe you want us to create a bespoke design just for your event. We’re a small studio and take on a limited number of projects in any given time period to ensure that we can devote our full attention to each project, so reach out as soon as you pick a date, don’t delay.

LET’S MEET.  If you like what you see and hear so far, and want to know if we’re a good fit, e-mail us to set up a meeting. This consultation is either in person (if you’re in the Boston or Providence area) or on the telephone, or skype or even email. If you can’t meet us in person, we’d be happy to send you some printed pieces to swoon over, just ask.

…AND TALK.  Our meeting would start off with a great big chat about you guys, your wedding, your design aesthetic, and what you imagine your invitations to look like. Feel free to assemble any pictures or ideas you have to share, we love a good pinterest board, but don’t feel compelled, we’ve got time on this, we really just want to get to know you better, we’ll be working together for a while, and the more we get to know you, the more personal and special we can make your designs.

It would be most helpful if you did have a sense of what your budget is, this way we can suggest printing methods, enclosure cards, and finishing touches that are custom tailored to work within your actual budget.

WE’LL PROBABLY FALL IN LOVE, EXPECT A PROPOSAL.  Now that we’ve gotten to know each other a bit, we will have a good sense of what your wedding paper needs are, and which direction the design and finishing touches will take, and we can will send you an estimate for your paper goods.

HOPEFULLY YOU’LL SAY YES.  If you are as psyched as we are to work together, and have a strong sense that you’re not going to find what you really want at a big box retailer, then say yes and “okay” your estimate.

Payments go like so:

25% of your estimated total is due when you approve the estimate

50% is due at the close of the design phase

25% final payment is due upon shipment of your invites.

HOW LONG IS THIS ENGAGEMENT GOING TO BE?  If we’re creating a bespoke design, it can take up to 4 months from when we receive your wording to when you receive your invites. Expedited timelines are often available, just ask. If you’re modifying something from our existing collection, 6 weeks should do it.

Once we know you’re on board, we’ll send along a project calendar so you know when to expect design rounds from us, and when we’ll need feedback from you.

let's dig in. THE DESIGN ROUNDS

YOUR HOMEWORK.  Send along wording for each piece we’ll be creating. Designing with the actual copy will cut down on revisions and confusion later on in the process. We’ll help you with the rules if you’re at an impasse, and we’re happy to do some creative copywriting if you want to buck the formal wording altogether, just ask.

Please take your time with your feedback to each round, gather all of your thoughts, and make sure the entire committee weighs in, as any revisions after Round Three will incur additional hourly design fees and lengthen our project. Remember: a stitch in time saves nine.

ROUND ONE.  In 5-10 days from when you send along your wording you will receive ROUND ONE as a digital PDF presentation with several directions to choose from for your main invitation. From there you would send us feedback via e-mail choosing one overall direction and requesting specific changes or alterations to that option.

ROUND TWO.  Here we will include the refinements on your invite, and options for the additional pieces of your suite. Again, you’ll send us your feedback.

ROUND THREE.  This is your final design round, we will be finalizing the additional pieces, and showing finishing and assembly options, so you can literally see how it all comes together.

PROOF APPROVAL.  All good things must come to an end; sadly this includes your design adventure with Robinson Press. Once we land on the final design, you will receive a PDF marked PROOF that you will print out at home, re-read a thousand times for errors or typos, then you’ll ask any members of your immediate family, your neighbors, and your cat to do the same. Once you’re sure it’s good to go, you’ll give us a thumbs up, and your project will be moved into production.

magic on paper ensues. PRINTING & FINISHING

The printing of your invitation suite can take between 4-6 weeks. For letterpress, a plate is created for each color of each piece. The papers are sourced and then cut down from larger sheets, each ink color is mixed by hand, 100 year old presses are inked and oiled, and coaxed into action by a seasoned printer who hand-feeds each sheet of your wedding paper through the press, one ride per color. Once each print is dry, they are trimmed to size, and finishing touches are carried out such as foil stamping, corner rounding, edge painting, ribbon tying and envelope lining. If we are digitally addressing your envelopes, please allow up to an additional two weeks for this service, as this is done after they are letterpress printed.

hooray! THEy're ready. Shipping

We’ll carefully package these beauties, and send them to you via UPS, insured for their full value, on your dime. We could also arrange a pick-up if you're in the greater Boston area. Laying eyes on your invites for the first time is a pretty exciting moment, break out the bubbly and prepare for this wedding thing to suddenly feel very real!

but wait - i want more! wedding day PAPER goods

If we’re also designing and producing paper goods for your wedding day, it’s likely that there are still evolving details that need to be finalized before we can get started. Two design rounds are included in the pricing for day-of-paper, and printing is often digital, therefore this part of your project usually takes 4-6 weeks, though we can accept variable data for escort cards or seating charts up to 2 weeks before your wedding, as long as the design is finalized beforehand.
